10year celebration

Art Day

Primary Art Day, held on Friday 23rd Aug 2024, was a resounding success at NIS. This annual event, dedicated to celebrating creativity and artistic expression, provided a vibrant and engaging experience for students and teachers alike. The day was filled with a variety of art-related activities that fostered creativity, collaboration, and appreciation for art.

This special day often features various activities and projects that allow students to explore different art forms, from drawing and painting to sculpture and collage.

Now let’s take a look at what our children did in a grade wise manner -

  • Foster Creativity: Art Day gives children a chance to experiment with different materials and techniques, helping them to think creatively and problem-solve in new ways. The students of Grade 3 enjoyed various fun activities, including stone painting, where they turned ordinary stones into colourful works of art, making paper bag houses, which sparked their imagination and design skills, and envelope making, where they crafted their own unique envelopes.
  • Build Confidence: Creating art can boost self-esteem and confidence, especially when students see their work displayed or shared with others. For students of Grade 4, it was a day of exploration and experimenting with new art materials and styles. They started off with nature monoprint in green using leaves of various shapes and textures. This was followed by creating artistic season’s greeting cards using a floral theme along with greetings written in calligraphy style. The most exciting activity of the day was making pom pom hearts with wool and it was heartwarming to see the students vying for making more!
  • Enhance Engagement: Art activities can be a fun and engaging way to enhance learning and keep students interested in their education. Our Grade 1 tiny tots delved into a variety of engaging activities, each designed to spark imagination and foster a love for art. They crafted unique paper bag face masks by decorating their masks as per the cut outs provided. Next was Sunflower Painting inspired by Vincent van Gogh. Students were given sunflower cutouts that they coloured beautifully using yellow poster colours. The final activity of the day involved a relaxing and artistic session of colouring paper tags where students added personal touches with markers, drawing floral patterns and additional designs.
  • Cultural Appreciation: It provides an opportunity to introduce students to different cultures and historical art forms, broadening their understanding and appreciation of the world. The students of Grade 5 explored diverse artistic techniques using different materials. They crafted artistic birds using cut outs, focusing on creating vibrant, textured wings and tails with various fabrics. Next, using felt fabric, students designed and created unique sunglass covers. They adorned these covers with intricate Mandala art, blending traditional patterns with modern utility. Students also experimented with block printing to decorate paper gift bags. This activity not only introduced them to the art of block printing but also allowed them to create eco-friendly, personalized gift bags. Throughout these activities, our students thoroughly enjoyed working collaboratively. The entire Primary section came together to share ideas, materials, and creativity. The sense of unity and shared accomplishment was evident, making the experience both educational and memorable.
  • Encourage Emotional Expression: Art can be a powerful outlet for expressing feelings and emotions, which is important for children’s emotional development. Our Grade 2 students had an enjoyable morning immersed in a splash of colours as they enthusiastically participated in a series of Art day activities. The art teachers had lined up four activities for them. They explored Wet Wipes tie and dye to be turned into colourful buntings, making James Rizzi building structures with tissue rolls, cherry blossom Dot Painting on brown paper to be made into bookmarks and a collaborative colouring of a panel (See picture below).
  • Giving back to Society - All our students' artwork will be displayed in school and everyone can have a Gallery walk at the end of this week. Some of the artwork made during this day will be sold at one of the upcoming school carnivals and the proceeds will be given for charity. Some artwork will be a part of permanent art displays around the school reiterating our school attributes.

Overall, Art Day is a great way to make learning enjoyable and to highlight the importance of the role of Art in education.
